Study co-authored by NFCA Advisory board member published in Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.

NFCA Scientific/Medical Advisory Board member, Dr. Ritu Verma, co-authored an important study featured in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, February 2009 edition. The article, entitled “Bone Mineral Content Deficits of the Spine and Whole Body Children at Time of Diagnosis With Celiac Disease”. was the product of a University of Pennsylvania study which identified a lack of spinal bone mineral content in children diagnosed with celiac disease.

NFCA Representing Gluten-Free at Premiere National Culinary Industry Event

The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) will make its case for increasing the availability and accessibility of gluten -free foods at the 2009 Research Chefs Association (RCA) Culinology® Expo, to be held in Dallas, Texas. The foundation aims to make a huge impact on over 200 culinary industry organizations represented at the Expo as they present, ‘Rolling out a Gluten-Free Menu or Product’ on Saturday, March 7th at 3PM.

Living up to its reputation as the first gluten-free celiac friendly city in America, Philadelphia’s official visitor website, www.gophila.com , has launched a listing of premier area restaurants offering gluten-free menus featured prominently on the site’s food and dining section. All listed restaurants have partnered with the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) in promoting delicious gluten-free food.

NFCA staff speaks to Lancaster Area Celiacs

NFCA director of operations Nancy Ginter was the headlining presenter at the January 26th Lancaster Area Celiacs support group meeting held at Lancaster General Hospital. For almost 100 members of the local celiac community, the presentation addressed general information on celiac disease, and thegrowing gluten-free marketplace. Nancy also discussed NFCA's programs for raising awareness and driving diagnosis and encouraged attendees to join in NFCA’s efforts through volunteering and participation in NFCA programs and events.

NFCA earns admission into 13th International Coeliac Disease Symposium

The NFCA is both thrilled and humbled by the acceptance of its abstract submission entitled, “Gluten-Free Cooking Sprees: An innovative approach to promoting awareness and diagnosis of celiac disease”into the 13th annual International Coeliac Disease Symposium (ICDS). NFCA president Alice Bast will have the tremendous honor of presenting the entire study during the event to be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from April 6th-8th 2009. NFCA’s abstract will be showcased alongside 350 presentations slated for the symposium’s program.
