Top 5 Tips for Gluten-Free Kids
1. Ask Before You Eat Something.
Lots of foods contain gluten, and it's hard to tell just by looking at it. It's always best to ask an adult what's in a food before you eat it.
2. Always Read Labels Before Buying Food.
Read the ingredients list and check for warnings on the box to make sure there's no gluten in the food. Again, even food that may look safe could actually have hidden gluten in it.
3. If You're Not Sure About Ingredients, Call the Number on the Back of the Box.
When you call the number, ask if they can confirm that their food is gluten-free. It's also a good idea to ask if they make their gluten-free food on a special line or in a special factory to keep the food safe.
4. Substitute Things.
It's fun to try gluten-free substitutes for things like bread, pasta and cookies. If you don't like one of the substitutes, try something else. For example, if you don't like the taste of gluten-free bread, use a rice cake to make a sandwich instead.
5. Gluten-Free Food is Expensive, So Try to Find Things as Cheap as You Can Get Them.
A great way to save money is by shopping online. You can order your food and have it shipped to your house, and it can be a lot less money than shopping at the store.
