Patient Engagement Intern

Patient Engagement Intern—Part-time, paid position (Remote/USA)

The Go Beyond Celiac (GBC) patient registry collects important survey data from people with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity to provide insight into patient experiences and to accelerate research. Beyond Celiac seeks an intern to help develop a plan for increased participant engagement and retention. This position would also assist the Senior Director of Coalition & Patient Engagement with ongoing clinical trial screening projects.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize patient registry engagement, retention, and integration with clinical trial screening activities
    • Summarize current priorities and gaps
      • Review team goals and best practices from literature
      • Collect feedback from Go Beyond Celiac participants
    • Develop and outline strategy
      • Create timeline with feasible action items
      • Design and submit materials to IRB
  • Clinical trial screening
    • Identify candidates who meet specific criteria for trials
    • Manage recruitment spreadsheets in Excel
    • Contact participants about travel
  • Track Go Beyond Celiac metrics, as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in the social sciences or a related field (e.g., public health, psychology, sociology)
  • Experience reviewing academic literature, working with patients and/or identifiable patient data, synthesizing findings to develop a strategy
    • In your cover letter, please explain your experiences in these areas
  • Understanding of IRB processes
  • Basic knowledge of and comfort working with:
    • Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)
    • Google Workspace
    • PubMed and Google Scholar
  • Demonstrated ability to work remotely
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing strategies related to patient registry engagement/retention, patient engagement/retention in a research study, and/or user engagement/retention in an online platform
  • Completion of one or more courses related to human research and/or research ethics

Logistics

  • $15.00 per hour
  • Part-time, 20 hours/week
  • Fully remote

This internship offers the opportunity to work closely with the Beyond Celiac Science Team. The position will report directly to the Assistant Director of Research & Health Equity Programs, and it will provide additional assistance to the Senior Director of Coalition & Patient Engagement, as noted above. 

Timeline
