NFCA President & CEO Alice Bast the Keynote Speaker at the Central Pennsylvania Gluten-Free Expo

“Whether you have gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, everyone has a story.”

Alice Bast, President and CEO of the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA), shared her celiac disease diagnosis story at the Central Pennsylvania Gluten-Free Expo on Sunday, November 8, 2015.

After an eight year battle with reproductive health issues, migraines, chronic diarrhea, hair loss and more, Alice was finally diagnosed with celiac disease and began a gluten-free diet. Although she felt better physically, Alice was still uneasy about the lack of awareness and education that existed on her condition. In 2003, Alice decided to start NFCA to provide answers for others with celiac disease. Today, she continues to advocate for advances in the celiac disease field.

In its third year in central Pennsylvania, the Gluten-Free Expo gathered together several vendors and nutritionists who are passionate about creating food and products that are easily available and affordable to the growing gluten-free community. Attendees of the expo had the opportunity to learn more about celiac disease and other gluten-related disorders, as well as try many gluten-free options available both in stores and online.

This event is a time to discuss current issues within the gluten-free industry, as well as hopes and plans for the future. With a dedicated group behind the cause, positive change is on its way!
