NFCA President and Founder transforms into NFCA Athlete for Awareness

Alice Bast suits, pedals and laces up for her first triathlon!

Back in April,

NFCA president and founder Alice Bast announced her plans to fulfill her personal goal of completing a triathlon.

“When I was struggling with undiagnosed celiac disease, I could never imagine running a marathon or setting a performance goal, as I was feeling too fatigued. Now on a gluten-free diet and feeling better and stronger than I did in my 20’s.”

Well, her big moment has finally arrived! This Sunday, August 29, Alice will be racing in the

SheRox Triathlon Series

event held in Asbury Park, NJ.

“Although I’ve been sick all week, I know it’s going to be so much fun,” she says.

After training all summer long for the .25 mile swim, 12 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run, she is predictably excited and nervous for this lifetime first endeavor.

“ I think I’m most anxious about the bike ride – I had to borrow both the special shoes AND the racing bike (I only have a cross trainer). I just hope my feet will be able to clip into the pedals correctly so I won’t fall on my face when I stop!”

Jitters aside, Alice is looking forward to satisfaction that comes when hard work pays off, relishing the opportunity to wear a new and different hat for NFCA as she crosses the finish line on Saturday-

“I like to set an example, so taking on both roles has been exciting and very natural. I’ll admit that I had to force myself to get my little butt off the chair and exercise at times. It’s just so easy to get into a working, working, working routine and skip exercising when you have way too much on your plate.

But I always set goals for myself on a daily basis – whether it’s as a mother, wife, friend, NFCA President, or even an athlete! Participating in this triathlon has given me a goal and I’m thrilled to be able to practice what I preach.”
