Gluten-Free Food Pantry to Launch in Pittsburgh

Food drive at upcoming Celiac Workshop will kick off the cause.

Help is on the way for Pittsburgh area celiacs struggling to afford much-needed specialty foods. A gluten-free food pantry will soon give low-income families access to food they need to stay healthy. Led by the Allegheny General Hospital Center for Digestive Health Celiac Clinic, the pantry will distribute gluten-free food through the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

The project will kick off Jan. 29 at the Pittsburgh Celiac Workshop, which will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Monroeville, PA, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable gluten-free items for the food drive.

The gluten-free pantry is expected to distribute items at North Hills Community Outreach, East End Cooperative Ministries, West Hills Food pantry and Brentwood Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, according to the announcement.

Gluten-free food items can also be dropped off at the Allegheny Center for Digestive Health (1307 Federal Street, North Side), or at Eden’s Market (99 Alfred St at Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon) during business hours until the end of the month.
