Celiac Disease in the Top 3 Medical Searches on Yahoo.com in 2012

Yahoo! Shine Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Romolini reveals “What is celiac disease?” was the 3rd most asked medical question on the search engine.

Each year, the popular search engine Yahoo! releases its “Year in Review,” a collection of the most searched stories and trends for the year. On an episode of the hit talk show, “The Doctors,” editor-in-chief of Yahoo! Shine Jennifer Romolini revealed the third most popular medical question searched on Yahoo! in 2012: What is celiac disease?

According to Romolini, more and more people are turning to the internet to search for medical conditions, even before going to their doctor. With all the buzz about the gluten-free diet in the news, it’s no surprise people are turning to the internet to learn more about gluten-free food and celiac disease.

After Romolini revealed she herself has celiac disease, Dr. Travis Stork, a physician on the show, explained the autoimmune disease for the viewers. In the video clip from the show, Dr. Stork goes beyond saying people with celiac disease can’t eat gluten. He went on to describe the immune reaction and importantly notes that not everyone with celiac disease will experience gastrointestinal symptoms.

If you think you may have celiac disease, visit the Celiac Disease Symptoms Checklist to learn more about both the gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal symptoms. Check out the rest of the Year in Review from Yahoo! here.
