Thinking of taking a trip to the Bay area? Check out these three restaurants, all of which are totally gluten-free! These recommendations and reviews come from Reach Beyond Celiac Ambassador Lauren Menagh, who lives in San Francisco.
Located in Novato in beautiful Marin County, Flour Chylde is a 100% gluten-free bakery dedicated to using wholesome ingredients. In addition to delicious baked goods, they also offer dairy-free, low-sugar, nut-free and vegan options. You can enjoy delectable cakes, pies, breads, sandwiches and handcrafted coffee at both their charming café location on Grant Avenue as well as the Marin County Farmers’ Market.
Flour Chylde also ships via UPS! Flour Chylde was the first gluten-free bakery I tried after I was first diagnosed with celiac disease, and five years later I still stop in for a house-made bagel or chocolate chip tahini cookie every chance I get. Whether you’re a Marin County local or passing through on a visit, don’t miss out on the fantastic Flour Chylde bakery!
Forest and Flour is a dream come true for anyone with multiple food allergies, or for folks simply looking for scrumptious and healthy treats. This woman-owned and environmentally-conscious bakery is 100% gluten-free, dairy-free, peanut-free, soy-free, corn-free and nightshade-free. Plus, all the ingredients are organic. Forest and Flour offers unique goodies like lavender lemon bread and matcha muffins, as well as classics such as baguettes, cakes and more.
I first discovered Forest and Flour at the Fort Mason Farmers’ Market in San Francisco, and still come back almost every Sunday for their delicious treats. You can visit Forest and Flour at farmers’ market locations in Oakland, Los Gatos, San Francisco and Mountain View. In some exciting news, they will also be opening a storefront soon! Check out their website for schedules and details.
