Gluten-free donuts and muffins are rolling out nationwide, with special packaging to prevent cross-contamination.
Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc., the company that franchises Dunkin’ Donuts stores nationwide, has announced that they will begin selling gluten-free products. In making this announcement, Dunkin’ Donuts becomes the first fast-food chain to offer gluten-free pastries on a national scale. Two particular items, gluten-free cinnamon-sugar doughnuts and blueberry muffins, were noted by Stan Frankenthaler, the executive chef of Dunkin’ Donuts, in an e-mail to Bloomberg.com. Frankenthaler explained that the gluten-free products will have separate packaging to prevent cross-contamination.
Last December, NFCA reported that Dunkin’ Donuts was testing gluten-free products in Florida and Massachusetts. The gluten-free donuts and muffins are now available in the Hartford, CT, area, and the company will continue its nationwide roll out this year, according to Bloomberg.
