Paige VolandtThe Voices of Celiac Disease

Journey to Diagnosis

We are forever grateful to the medical team at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (KOP Campus) who asked if a celiac panel could be run on Bryn back in May 2022. No one and no test to date at that point could explain her rapid weight loss, the targeted rash on her legs and arms, and her lack of interest in food; it made sense to run the panel.

Now we are well over a year into our celiac journey with our youngest daughter, Bryn. We couldn’t be more proud of our sassy and determined three-year-old as she advocates for herself to ensure things are gluten-free! While it’s not always an easy journey, we greatly appreciate the resources we have found and of course the support of our family, friends and community! To say it takes a village is an extreme understatement; it’s so much more than that.

Becoming an Advocate for the Community

Having the opportunity to become a Reach Beyond Celiac ambassador gives me the opportunity, alongside my pint-size advocate, to be part of a community of support and education (to name a few characteristics!)

While we may not ever know how or why our family was chosen to be a celiac family, it’s okay! We have a path forward to be voices and faces in a movement toward a cure by 2030.

I am honored to be joining the Beyond Celiac team and to share in the push to bring awareness and visibility to celiac disease and ultimately, a cure.
