Describe your life prior to diagnosis:
I used to rarely have abdominal pain, but I got an endoscopy, which was negative for celiac disease. In 2017 my symptoms worsened and I developed indigestion, which continued intermittently for three years.
How did you come to know (or suspect) that you have celiac disease?
I moved back home and there was substantial worsening of my symptoms, along with a tremendous weight loss. Eventually I did a tTg test and the results were markedly elevated.
If you were diagnosed, who made the diagnosis?
I am a doctor, so it was me initially, but I later consulted with a gastroenterologist.
How long did it take for you to get diagnosed since your first symptoms?
It took eleven years.
Describe your experience with living with celiac disease:
Initially I was numb about it, but now I have accepted it. I no longer suffer and am content with myself. My life is even more beautiful knowing that I am different.
Is there anything else you’d like to add to your story?
Now that I have been living gluten-free for two years, I have started gaining weight and living a normal life.
