Brooke GoldbergThe Voices of Celiac Disease

“The biggest challenge for me when I first got diagnosed was that I still remembered the taste of foods I used to be able to eat.”

Hi everyone, my name is Brooke Goldberg and I am a 16-year-old in Rockville, Maryland.

I was diagnosed with celiac disease when I was 8 years old after always being in some sort of pain and not growing. When I was first diagnosed with celiac disease, it was really hard for me, as it would be for anyone. I would always have temper tantrums and going out to eat was a struggle because I always wanted what others had. The biggest challenge for me when I first got diagnosed was that I still remembered the taste of foods I used to be able to eat. Through my diagnosis with celiac disease, I found a love for cooking and baking. I especially love experimenting in the kitchen and trying out new recipes. When I’m not busy with school or In the kitchen I love hanging out with friends.

As an ambassador for Beyond Celiac I am excited to help get rid of the stigma people have about gluten-free food because it never feels good when people say, “eww,” or “gross,” to what you are eating just because it is gluten-free. I’m so excited to be a part of this amazing group of ambassadors and help others navigate through celiac disease.
