AMBLER, Pa. (August 27, 2012) – The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (www.beyondceliac.org), a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing diagnoses and improving quality of life for those with gluten-related disorders, announced today that it has partnered with Walmart to give one lucky winner a gluten-free pantry makeover.

NFCA logo NFCA’s inaugural Gluten-Free Pantry Raid sweepstakes offers the chance to win a $500 gluten-free shopping spree at Walmart led by NFCA Founder & President Alice Bast. The Grand Prize winner will also receive an in-home consultation with Bast and an expert dietitian who will offer tips for organizing, storing and preparing gluten-free food. The total prize is valued at $3,000.

“This is the first ever shopping spree to focus solely on gluten-free food. It’s a testament to the work we’ve done to increase the availability and affordability of gluten-free options,” said Bast. “We thank Walmart for recognizing the needs of celiac and gluten sensitive customers. This will be the shopping trip of a lifetime!”

An estimated 3 million Americans have celiac disease and an estimated 18 million Americans have non-celiac gluten sensitivity. Both conditions require a strict, lifelong gluten-free diet.

NFCA will film the gluten-free shopping spree and pantry makeover for an educational video to be posted on the organization’s YouTube channel. The video will teach viewers how to read food labels, identify gluten-free foods and avoid accidental gluten exposure in the kitchen.

The Gluten-Free Pantry Raid is open to all U.S. residents who enter by August 31, 2012. The Grand Prize winner will be announced on September 13, 2012 – Celiac Awareness Day.

Donations raised through the Gluten-Free Pantry Raid will support NFCA’s vital initiatives, including gluten-free restaurant training, healthcare education and free resources for the public. The sweepstakes is sponsored in part by Crunchmaster, Cabot Creamery and Glutino.
