Describe your child’s life prior to diagnosis.

Lance struggled in everyday tasks. Lance was always weak and lethargic—most days he was always wanting to lie down and not participate in many activities.

How did you find out that your child had celiac disease? Did you suspect it beforehand?

His doctor had concerns of celiac disease with all the symptoms he was having and his low growth chart. No matter diets or extra calories, Lance was never able to gain weight.

How long did it take for your child to get diagnosed since their first symptoms?

About six months. Lance was always so weak. Lance was starting preschool and his teachers would always say how he would just sit there and stare off. It took so much effort for him to get excited about things. Knowing he was having such a hard time really made us all worried about Lance’s health.

Describe your experience living with celiac disease.

Now that Lance is on a strict gluten-free diet he is THRIVING. He is doing great in school, able to play three sports, and overall looks so much healthier. He has grown inches in just one year! He has to take those extra steps to make sure everything he touches is safe for him. He is so strong and resilient. We are all so proud of him and all the challenges he has to overcome!

What would a cure mean for you?

A cure would help Lance not have to overthink everything he touches. He wouldn’t be scared to try new things he would be able to live a more relaxed life like his peers and enjoy his childhood!
