We hosted this Research Summit because so many needs remain unmet for the celiac disease community. Patients remain undiagnosed for years, suffering needlessly, and then if they are lucky enough to be diagnosed, they are put on a strict, lifelong, and burdensome diet that often rules their lives. They choose colleges, careers, and decline opportunities because they have no options. From the moment we wake up, we are on call and constantly evaluating what we put into our mouths. There are no breaks. There are no days off. If we or others around us make a mistake, we can lose days to debilitating symptoms that make it nearly impossible to get through our day-to-day tasks. On top of this, we now know that many of us are not healing on this gluten-free diet.

Beyond Celiac has worked diligently through the last decade to amplify the patient voice and advocate for treatments beyond the gluten-free diet. Our science team and Scientific Advisory Board have created and are implementing the only transformational patient-centered research plan in the celiac disease space. We are focused on accelerating solutions so that we can live our lives to the fullest, free from worry about every bite.

Our work includes forging important biotech and pharmaceutical partnerships, recruiting for clinical trials, and funding innovative research through our grant program, which has granted close to $800,000 and counting over the last few years. But innovation takes cooperation. There’s a reason we changed our tagline to “together for a cure.” The 2022 Beyond Celiac Research Summit is a critical next step in working together to deliver treatment options to everyone who wants and needs them.
