Hi! My name is Sabira, and I’m from San Ramon, California. I’m currently a senior in high school and am passionate about connecting with the celiac community, raising awareness, and advocating for those living with this autoimmune condition.

As a Beyond Celiac Ambassador, I hope to help others feel informed and supported, while contributing to greater awareness of celiac disease in our communities!

I was diagnosed with celiac disease when I was six years old, and since then, it has shaped many aspects of my life. Growing up, I often felt different from my peers at birthday parties, school events, and family gatherings where gluten-containing foods were everywhere. Coming from a Punjabi family where wheat-based foods are a central part of many meals, adapting to a gluten-free lifestyle was especially challenging. Finding alternatives that fit both my dietary needs and cultural background took time, patience, and support.

Over the years, celiac disease has become more than just a diagnosis because it’s inspired my interest in science, healthcare, and advocacy. Through volunteering at celiac awareness events, educating others about the disease, and sharing my own experiences, I’ve discovered how important community and education are for those navigating a gluten-free lifestyle.
