When I learned I needed to live gluten-free in 2009, few people were talking about gluten-free living. Dining out felt isolating, and I was often the oddball at the table, asking questions while everyone else ordered freely.

Today, we have more choices, but the gluten-free person is often put in charge of choosing the restaurant for everyone. That responsibility can feel overwhelming. We are not just looking for somewhere we can eat. We want a place where everyone will enjoy the food, our needs will be taken seriously and we can relax and be part of the experience.

As a gluten-free foodie, I set out in fall 2024 to find the best gluten-free pizza in Dallas. I invited others to join me so we could share pizzas and try more toppings. That first gathering revealed a real need for connection, and Best of Dallas Gluten-Free was born.

I began hosting monthly dine-arounds where people could discover local restaurants, dine with greater confidence and connect with others who understood. The food brings people to the table, but what happens around it means so much more. People arrive not knowing anyone and leave with new friendships and a sense of belonging.

These experiences also support local restaurants, bakeries and vendors by introducing them to engaged diners who become loyal customers. As a Beyond Celiac Ambassador, I hope to continue creating connection, raising awareness and helping people with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity feel seen, supported and included.
