Getting the Conversation Started

At Beyond Celiac, we know that talking to your family about celiac disease testing can be challenging. For years, you have been sharing your experiences with us through surveys and social media. It’s clear that you and your family would benefit from having more effective ways to talk about celiac disease testing and its genetic link.

Based on community stories and feedback, Beyond Celiac took a look at the conversations happening about family testing. We collaborated on a multi-phase research project with people diagnosed with celiac disease and at-risk family members who remained untested. The result of this important research is the Beyond Celiac Seriously, Celiac Disease campaign.

Important: Be sure to have a one-on-one, in-person conversation with your relatives about their genetic risk for celiac disease. The research from Beyond Celiac shows that family members will not take action and get tested if these materials are shared with them in place of having an in-person conversation.

Note: At the time this video was made, Beyond Celiac was known as the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.
