Beyond Celiac is pleased that argenx reported promising results from their phase 2 study of FB102, a potential treatment for celiac disease, and that they plan to move forward to a phase 3 trial, the last phase of drug development before market distribution.

Drug Appears to Protect Intestine from Damage

According to preliminary information from the company’s press release, FB102 protected the small intestine from damage due to gluten consumption in participants with celiac disease. The argenx team also reports that participants who received the drug had changes in symptoms and markers of inflammation, suggesting the drug could do more than just protect the small intestine.

In their press release, the argenx team shares they plan “to advance FB102 into Phase 3 development,” which would mark a huge leap forward for celiac disease drug development.

In the United States, drugs must pass through three phases of clinical trials before the company can sell it to patients. On average, it takes a little more than 10 years for most drugs to make it from idea to market—and about 90% of drugs never make it to market at all. But we may not have to wait quite as long to hear more about FB102, because the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) designated it for their Fast Track program, which means the FDA may review a company’s work more quickly to move promising drugs through the process and, ultimately, get a safe and functional treatment to patients who don’t currently have one.

Next Steps and Getting Involved

argenx intends to share results at a forthcoming meeting, and you can be sure Beyond Celiac will cover this study in more detail once we have more information.

The Beyond Celiac team supported recruitment for the FB102 phase 2 study earlier in 2026, and is proud to have contributed to this success. None of this would have been possible without community members generously joining the clinical trial, so we thank them especially for their participation!
