SUNRISE Beach golfer Katherine Hull is within striking distance after the opening round of the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship in Houston, Texas.

Hull carded a one-under 71 to be in a share of 24th place. She is five strokes off the lead, which is held by Mexico’s world No.1 Lorena Ochoa.

Caloundra’s Sarah-Jane Kenyon, needing a strong result to retain her Tour card and avoid a trip to Qualifying School, was one stroke further back at one-over.
