Letter from Alice: Celebrating Achievements and Looking Forward

Dear Beyond Celiac Community,
As we approach the end of this year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support. Together, we’ve accomplished so much, and it is your dedication that fuels our mission to transform the lives of those affected by celiac disease. This December, as we celebrate the season of giving, let us reflect on the progress we’ve made.
In the past few years, we’ve achieved significant milestones in our pursuit of treatments leading to a cure, thanks to your generosity and unwavering support. We have published original research with data through our patient registry Go Beyond Celiac, awarded nearly a dozen grants, and assisted multiple companies in recruiting for their clinical trials. Already there are 16 (yes, 16!) drugs in the clinical trial pipeline. You can read about many of those updates on our research news feed.
Our progress has brought us closer to a future where individuals with celiac disease can eat without fear. This dream alone kindles hope in the hearts of many—rest assured that there is a light at the end of this dark night. Our dream is within our reach, and we can make it a reality by standing together.
At Beyond Celiac, we believe in the power of unity and the strength of community. We invite you to join us in accelerating our mission to find a cure for celiac disease. By supporting our groundbreaking research projects, grants, clinical trial recruitment, and more, you become an integral part of our journey toward scientific advancements and, ultimately, a world where we can live life to the fullest.
As we move forward into the new year, I encourage you to continue your support and involvement with Beyond Celiac. Kindle the fire of progress. Together, we can turn hope into reality and make a profound difference in the lives of those affected by celiac disease.
Thank you for being an essential part of our community. Wishing you a warm and joyful holiday season.
With deepest gratitude,
Alice Bast, CEO
This wine and rosemary beef with chestnuts can easily be the star of any holiday meal. Plus it’s fairly easy—pop it in a slow cooker with the other ingredients and let time and heat do the work.
Gingerbread, a holiday classic! Use this GF recipe, courtesy of our friends at the Gluten-Free Palate, to make celiac-safe gingerbread houses and gingerbread people. Decorating the cookies will be almost as enjoyable as eating them!
Noticias sobre investigación
Last week, Dr. Arnold Han, MD PhD sat down with us to discuss his research into the role of CD8 T-cells in celiac disease, and where he hopes it leads. You can watch a replay of the event on our YouTube channel. This event was possible thanks to our friends at Crunchmaster Crackers!

Lily Study
The LILY study is a celiac disease study that will measure the safety of the study medication, DONQ52, at targeting an immune complex known to cause celiac disease symptoms. There is no gluten challenge in this study. You may be compensated for time and travel.
ILLUMINATE-062 Study
Participants are needed for the ILLUMINATE-062 Study, which is looking at the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication designed to break down gluten in the stomach compared with placebo in those with celiac disease who are on a gluten-free diet. The study will evaluate how well the investigational medication reduces celiac-related symptoms and intestinal damage due to gluten exposure.
Participants who have been diagnosed with celiac, which was confirmed by a biopsy, and have been on a gluten-free diet for at least 12 months are needed. Study-related care is provided at no cost and a travel stipend may be provided.
Voices of Celiac: Rhianon’s Story
“Growing up in an Italian-American family we ate pasta, bread, and pastries just about every day. Gathering around the table for family dinner has always held significant importance in my family.
From my early years into adulthood I experienced occasional stomach pain after eating but always thought, ‘This is normal and everyone has periodic stomach pain.’”
