Beyond Celiac Launches #60ForCeliac in Recognition of Celiac Awareness Month

Philadelphia – (May 2, 2016) – Beyond Celiac, a patient advocacy organization committed to helping Beyond Celiac logothe celiac disease community live better, longer, launched #60ForCeliac, an awareness campaign focused on educating the public about the struggles of living with celiac disease on a daily basis. Beyond Celiac encourages members of the community to take 60 seconds out of their day to share their experiences, educate others and dispel myths about celiac disease.

“Many people living with celiac disease struggle with feelings of isolation and anxiety. This is because of low awareness of the seriousness of the disease among friends and family, as well as fears of accidental exposure when following a gluten-free diet,” said Alice Bast, CEO of Beyond Celiac. “Our #60ForCeliac campaign aims to empower these individuals to overcome the obstacles that can prevent them from sharing their genuine stories about the realities of living with celiac disease.”

Celiac disease is a serious genetic autoimmune disease in need of higher diagnosis rates and better treatment options. Today, the diagnosis rate for celiac disease stands at 17 percent. Left untreated, celiac disease can lead to other long-term health problems, including cancer, malnutrition and osteoporosis.

To support participation in #60ForCeliac, Beyond Celiac has developed a 60 second video that members of the community can use to spark a conversation with friends and family. The organization has also developed an e-cookbook of gluten-free recipes and informative infographics. The ultimate goal of Beyond Celiac is to forge pathways to a cure for celiac disease by advocating for research and engaging patients.
