SAN FRANCISCO (Nov. 4, 2013) – The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) in conjunction with nationally acclaimed chef and restaurateur, Jehangir Mehta, continues the national GREAT KitchensTM Gluten-Free Chef’s Table Tour in San Francisco, C.A. on November 11 and 12. While in San Francisco, the GREAT Kitchens Chef’s Table Tour and Chef Mehta will address the growing demand for gluten-free food items in restaurants and schools through a series of gluten-free events.
“Dietary restrictions shouldn’t limit access to restaurant dining,” says Chef Jehangir Mehta, NFCA chef ambassador and Next Iron Chef finalist. “For diners with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, having access to safe gluten-free food is a necessity and not a luxury. Through the GREAT KitchensTM Gluten-Free Chef’s Table Tour, we hope to educate chefs across the country about the need for gluten-free menu items and open up a new culinary world for those who must avoid gluten.”
In San Francisco, the GREAT KitchensTM Gluten-Free Chef’s Table Tour San Francisco will kick off at The University of California at Berkeley by speaking to the school’s gluten-free campus organization, GlutenX Gluten Free Alliance.
Aimed at educating restaurants, caterers and universities on preparing gluten-free foods with front- and back-of-house skills and strategies, the Chef Mehta and the GREAT Kitchens TM Gluten-Free Chef’s Table Tour will also join Indian culinary expert Chef Anjan Mitra at his restaurant Dosa to host an exclusive chef’s table dinner. The San Francisco segment of the tour will conclude with a private chef’s table luncheon at Chef Adriana López Vermut’s Venezuelan gluten-free restaurant Pica Pica Arepa Kitchen jointly prepared by Chef Mehta.
