Celiac Awareness Month was so full of exciting new celiac research and education that we’re overflowing with more into June. We’ve got new articles, new studies, and new opportunities to chase down treatments leading to a cure for celiac disease!
In May, our team showcased that commitment by presenting two peer-reviewed abstracts at prestigious healthcare conferences and hosting the first-ever Beyond Celiac Coalition joint meeting with the FDA. In the world of medical research, these are powerful opportunities to convey the celiac community’s most pressing needs directly to influential researchers and leaders.
Here is more information on each:
And that’s still not all! In addition to our research and advocacy efforts in the past month, we’ve also:
Plus, thanks to our partnership with the American Gastroenterological Association, we authored four patient-friendly articles on new AGA research which will be published later this month.
This month, we also have an incredible opportunity to accelerate toward treatment and a cure, thanks to a community member inspired by our scientific momentum. Every dollar donated during June will be tripled, up to $15,000. For a life where we can eat without fear, please join us and seize this opportunity!
Beyond Celiac was born from the need to improve the quality of life for our community by funding and publishing more research and are sparked by scientific curiosity about celiac disease. With our talented Science Team and network of researchers, we are delivering and funding more celiac-related research than ever before. And we have you to thank for all of it.
You have been the driving force. For as long as we’ve been committed to pursuing increased celiac diagnoses and advancing research for new treatments and a cure, we have been supported by people like you who also believe in a world beyond celiac disease.
Summer is a fun and busy time of year. It also presents its own food challenges for people with celiac disease. Let’s use this first month of summer to accelerate our scientific momentum. Will you join me by donating today?
Together for a cure,
Alice, CEO
Rooted in science from the start, twenty years ago, Beyond Celiac educated thousands of medical professionals, increasing celiac diagnosis rates from 3% to nearly 50%. Today, we drive more research activities than ever before, from organizing patient-led meetings with the FDA to address challenges in clinical trials to investing $3 million to date in research aimed at identifying the cause and effects of celiac disease. All of our work ultimately drives progress toward treatments for celiac disease.
Right now, with your help, we are making strides toward a treatment beyond the gluten-free diet with 8 current research projects. During June, we will leap three steps for every dollar raised toward our $15,000 goal, thanks to a dedicated celiac community member’s gift.
Let’s seize this opportunity! Every dollar fuels the vital research that will bring us a cure.

When children with celiac disease become adults, follow-up care is often neglected
Children diagnosed with celiac disease often neglect follow-up as they reach adulthood, study shows.
New results from clinical trial shows continued progress for a drug to treat celiac disease
Increased doses of a drug being studied for the treatment of celiac disease tempered the response to gluten in celiac disease patients and remained as safe and well tolerated as lower doses.
Final step in diagnosing celiac disease often doesn’t occur even when blood tests indicate the need
Overall, about 30 percent of people who have had a positive blood test for celiac disease don’t go on to get a confirming endoscopy and biopsy, Beyond Celiac research presented at DDW found.

“I had a senior dog and I knew I wanted another dog, and I started to seriously think a gluten detection service dog may be an option. I couldn’t afford a fully-trained one, but an owner-trained one was an option. COVID gave me the time at home to start the process and I was very fortunate to get a puppy. I worked with a trainer over Zoom who taught me what to do. Suki, my gluten detection dog, now checks all my food, medicine, and personal care products for gluten. She travels with me everywhere, and I am so thankful to have her.”

Watch: May Town Hall, Managing the Psychosocial Burden of Celiac Disease
Many with celiac disease often report feeling isolated, awkward, and disheartened as they navigate the world on a gluten-free diet. In this Town Hall celebrating both Celiac Awareness Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, Dr. Anava Wren discusses her research on strategies to combat the social and psychological impacts of celiac disease.
Evening Beyond Celiac is our annual gala, taking place each June. This year we will be honoring The Snider Foundation, TODAY’s Dylan Dreyer and Dr. Dan Leffler, for their contributions to the celiac community. We look forward to welcoming all guests to Philadelphia on June 13th, for a wonderful night!
