I am concerned that my 7-year-old daughter may have celiac disease. We have been trying to figure out what is causing her lack of weight gain. She has not gained weight in almost a year and now a lack of growth in height as well. She is very irritable all the time and has become impossible to deal with. Should I have her tested?
There are several reasons why a child may not be gaining weight, including celiac disease, decreased calories, reflux, food allergies, and other malabsorption causes such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is reasonable to have the celiac panel completed, but I would also suggest an evalualtion with a gastroenterologist (GI) doctor.
