New Children’s Book Inspired by 7-Year-Old’s Experience with Celiac Disease

Portion of book sales will benefit the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.

A new children’s book is available to help parents explain celiac disease to kids. Nick and the Shrinking Inner Spaceshipis a fanciful journey through the body, written by Marcia Schmitz and her son, Nick.

The book was inspired by Nick’s own experience with celiac disease. Now 7 years old, Nick was diagnosed at age 6. He has learned and adjusted to his new gluten-free lifestyle but, according to the book’s website, he felt there weren’t enough kid’s books available to explain the disease.

Nick and the Shrinking Inner Spaceship brings readers along as Nick, an avid scientist, travels through his brother’s body systems with the help of a shrinking rocketship. While exploring his brother’s insides, Nick looks for signs of celiac disease and explains how gluten affects kids who have the autoimmune disorder.

The book is easy-to-read with big and colorful illustrations. Nick even shared his favorite gluten-free recipes at the end.

To help advance celiac awareness and gluten-free initiatives, Marcia and Nick are donating $1 of every book sold to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness.

Nick and the Shrinking Inner Spaceship is now available. Visit www.shrinkinginnerspaceship.com to order your copy.
