Director of Business Development

Beyond Celiac—an entrepreneurial non-profit working as a catalyst to drive treatments toward a cure for celiac disease and support the celiac disease community—is seeking a Director of Business Development to develop our corporate and pharmaceutical partnerships.
The Director of Business Development will oversee our strategic relationships with industry and non-industry corporations, including but not limited to pharmaceutical, biotech, diagnostics, food industry, healthcare, and other fields.
 
It is the role of the Director of Business Development to build mutually beneficial collaborations with current and potential new corporate partners, fully understanding their needs and the needs of the celiac disease community.
 
The individual in this position will engage the pharmaceutical, biotech, diagnostics and healthcare industries through Beyond Celiac partnerships, delivering value for companies engaged in celiac disease research, drug trials and other therapeutics. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the drug and treatment development process, the patient journey framework, and the evolving research landscape (with a focus on meaningful clinical research). This position will help companies recruit and engage patients and families to improve and increase their participation in disease management and research.
 
The person in this role will work to solicit and secure event sponsorship funding from industry and non-industry corporate partners ‐‐ such as food services, retailers, healthcare and others – to understand their unique needs and develop Beyond Celiac programs and deliverables to help meet those needs while supporting the celiac disease community.
 
This individual will work closely with key stakeholders, including corporate executives, patients, research partners, scientific and medical advisors and other thought leaders and key staff.
 
The Director of Business Development will use strategic thinking to understand and identify areas of opportunity and synergy based on patients’ needs, researchers’ needs, and corporate stakeholders’ goals followed by a hands‐on, process‐driven approach to successfully execute strategy in close collaboration with diverse, cross‐functional teams.
 
The individual will use strong analytical skills to derive and analyze giving trends and additional data sources that are relevant to maximizing the value of these corporate partnerships, and to generate increased funding.
 
Strong writing skills and attention to detail are required. This person needs to have the ability to set goals strategically and oversee execution.
 
The candidate must be able to work productively and proactively, both independently and within a team, all in the context of a fast‐paced, entrepreneurial environment and must have the ability to work cross-functionally with various internal and external constituents.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of all new and existing industry and non-industry corporate partnerships.
  • Manages each step of the corporate donor pipeline: identification, qualification, discovery, cultivation, request for support, stewardship, and recognition.
  • Develops and maintain relationships with pharmaceutical, biotech and diagnostic companies interested in celiac disease. This will include identifying new companies interested in this space, maintaining relationships with existing companies, and keeping up‐to‐date on the celiac disease drug development pipeline.
  • Works with the Director of Research and Patient Engagement and the Communications Department to identify clinical trial recruitment opportunities, prepare proposals, and execute clinical trial recruitment plans
  • Develop and execute partnership strategies with food and food service companies, retailers, restaurant chains or other firms whose interests and attention could benefit the celiac disease community.
  • Work with the Communications team to develop marketing, communications and promotional strategies that will address the needs of corporate sponsors and partners and help build effective, long‐term programs for the benefit of the celiac community.
  • Contribute insights, experiences, and knowledge to the development of strategy and tactics related to corporate partnerships and other business development, sponsorship, and research investments.
  • Work with the Director of Research and Patient Engagement, Medical and Scientific News Analyst and Communications team to continuously refine and improve research‐focused education and content based on data metrics such as reach, open rates, click‐through rates, engagement and knowledge and behavior change
  • Actively work cross-departmental in sharing resources and leveraging relationships
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree
  • Master’s degree preferred

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in Business Development/Nonprofit Development and/or Pharmaceutical Patient Engagement and/or Advocacy
  • Experience building corporate programs in partnership with the nonprofit sector
  • Strong technical communications skills and ability to synthesize and communicate
  • Experience generating and executing on novel ideas
  • Experience or general familiarity with patient‐reported data collection preferred
  • Experience in corporate partnership preferred
