Note from Alice: Join Us in Putting the FUN into Celiac Disease FUNdraising!
I am excited to announce the newest addition to the Beyond Celiac team: Jilian Hunt. Jilian recently joined us as our Fundraising Field Manager. Her connection to celiac disease began when her daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease. For years she watched her daughter, labeled as “failure to thrive” as an infant, struggle with chronic stomach aches, headaches, joint pain and more. While the official diagnosis was a relief, the time it took to receive it brought a lot of suffering to their family. It was these struggles that ignited a passion in Jilian that she’d never experienced before: the desire for a better future for her daughter and the entire celiac disease community.
It was this desire that brought Jilian to Beyond Celiac. She wanted to get involved, which led to her serving as chair of the inaugural fundraising event, the Step Beyond Celiac KC5K walk/run in Kansas City. A team of over 50 amazing volunteers pulled off this exciting race that featured over 600 participants from across the country. Online contributions mixed with proceeds from the walk/run led to the event raising an amazing $60,000 for celiac disease research ! On top of that, the volunteer team collected over 3,000 pounds of gluten-free food for the Food Equality Initiative. Erica Dermer, better known as the popular blogger behind Celiac and the Beast, attended as a speaker, signed autographs and helped raised funds with an individual giving page. It was a great success!
Jilian and the rest of our volunteers are a true testament to the power of stepping up! Now, she is an official member of the Beyond Celiac team, helping to ramp up next year’s Step Beyond Celiac KC5K and working to get others involved in organizing events like it across the nation. She will be assisting in recruiting people like YOU to give and create individual giving pages so you can easily raise funds for celiac disease research programs like Go Beyond Celiac in fun and interesting ways.
We’re currently seeking volunteers, so if you’ve ever wanted to get involved, or were unsure how to help those with celiac disease, this is your chance! We would love to speak with you about fundraising ideas that suit your time and talents. Now is the time to make noise and make our voices heard. You can reach Jilian to discuss opportunities at [email protected]org.
If the excitement and response to support celiac disease in Kansas City is any indication of other cities across the country, our opportunities are endless. We can’t wait to get started. Together we can create a world Beyond Celiac!
To living life Beyond Celiac,
