Celiac Disease Lecture by Dr. Alessio Fasano

Alessio Fasano, MD, a member of the Beyond Celiac Scientific/Medical Advisory Council, will deliver a lecture on “Celiac Disease Genomic, Environmental, Microbiome and Metabolomic Study: A Paradigm of Multi-omics in Autoimmune Diseases” at the University of Connecticut on April 4, 2016 from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Dr. Fasano is a world-renowned pediatric gastroenterologist and research scientist. He founded the Center for Celiac Research at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children in 1996. His 2003 prevalence study established that 1 in 133 Americans have celiac disease, and his research has contributed to growing awareness of celiac disease as a public health problem. Dr. Fasano and his team discovered zonulin in 2000, allowing for a new way of looking at the function of intestinal permeability as it affects the gut and in its role throughout all body systems in both inflammation and autoimmunity.

Dr. Fasano is a Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Massachusetts General Hospital. He treats both children and adults for gluten-related disorders.

You can listen to a live stream or recording (available April 5) of the lecture here.
