Summer Beyond Celiac Launches

May 9, 2022

Beyond Celiac is accelerating transformational research toward treatments and a cure for celiac disease and has created online resources to encourage the celiac disease community to help make it happen. By participating in Summer Beyond Celiac, every member of our community can be part of this movement to find treatments and a cure.

The grassroots fundraising campaign, Summer Beyond Celiac, launches May 2022 and runs until the leaves start to turn, in fall 2022. We encourage individuals across the world, particularly those with celiac disease and their loved ones, to get creative in imagining opportunities to raise funds for celiac disease research and other Beyond Celiac projects. Events will include science-video viewing parties, bake sales, cocktail hours, and more! Participants can show their support by posting about their events on social media with the hashtag #summerbeyondceliac.

Below are three research initiatives we’re rolling out for Summer Beyond Celiac, with more information about each to be released in May and June.

  • Uncovering Diversity and Disparity in Celiac Disease
  • Understanding Neurocognitive Effects of Gluten in Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity
  • Investigating Patient Quality of Life, True Prevalence, and Interception of the Disease

Examples of Summer Beyond Celiac Fundraising Events:

  • May 11-12 in Decorah, IA: Ambassador Olivia Quinby is hosting a gluten-free scavenger hunt in her college’s dining hall along with gluten-free trivia.
  • May 27 in Texarkana, AR: Painting for a Cure by Ambassador Lucia Jayde Ochoa and son Jayden.
  • May 28 in Winter Haven, FL: Volunteer Alia Scelp is having a booth at her local farmer’s market to sell gluten-free treats.
  • June 2 in Los Angeles, CA: Live drawing for Ambassador Hayden Bishop’s month-long fundraiser at a Jiu-Jitsu gym.
  • June 3 in Findlay, OH: Volunteers Cara and Jessica are leading Cara’s elementary school in a fundraising walk.

These are just a few of the projects we’re supporting in our efforts to fund life-changing research! We invite you, our community, to be our partners in this movement. Have fun with others while raising awareness and funds for critical celiac disease science by hosting an in-person or virtual Summer Beyond Celiac event!
