The Belleville High School Student Council selected celiac disease to be the focus of their biannual meeting.
Twice each year, the Student Council from Belleville High School in Michigan hosts a conference centered on various causes. This year, the students decided to focus on celiac disease due to the rising prevalence of the autoimmune disease.
The event kicked off with speaker Tracee Harris-Kloian, a local speaker and mother of a three-year-old daughter, who explained celiac disease and the gluten-free diet. Adding an element of fun, the students opened a “restaurant” where other students could come and order gluten-free meals.
The conference was considered a success, with Heritage Media saying events such as this one create “a very enlightening and positive message for all Belleville community members.” The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) couldn’t agree more. Way to go, Belleville!
