Professional Bodybuilder Raises Gluten-Free Awareness

FitnessRX Magazine interviews IFBB Pro Tabitha Klausen-Leandri.

In a recent FitnessRX Magazine interview, Igluten-free bodybuilderFBB Pro Tabitha Klausen-Leandri shines a light on gluten intolerance by revealing her personal experience with the disorder.

Tabitha was plagued by bloating and persistent digestive problems as a child. As a result of her pain and discomfort, the Professional Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure competitor was diagnosed with both anorexia and bulimia as she continued to struggle throughout her teens and twenties.

“You’re not sick if you don’t eat,” she explained.

But Tabitha’s desire to compete at a professional level drove her to identify the source of her symptoms. With encouragement from her husband, she discovered she was intolerant to both gluten and lactose.

Tabitha now feels her best when eating a clean, well-balanced, gluten-free diet. However, she admits that finding variety and staying away from baked goods are still a struggle.

“You really have to look everywhere, because you can get so bored. You don’t want to eat the same thing all the time,” she said.

Fortunately, Tabitha has pushed herself in the kitchen as well as the gym, and is learning to experiment with new gluten-free ingredients.

“I use liquid aminos, which I’ve found is really good replacement for soy sauce.”
