Kellogg’s to Launch Rice Krispies Gluten-Free in May

Company’s consumer specialist confirms buzz about gluten-free cereal coming to market.

Get your marshmallows ready. Kellogg’s is working on a gluten-free version of Rice Krispies cereal, and it’s expected to hit shelves by the end of May.

The news first broke when Gluten-Free Appetite posted a photo of the yet-to-be-unveiled Rice Krispies Gluten-Free cereal box. The blog stated that Kellogg’s planned to release a line of gluten-free cereals and snacks, with an announcement coming “within the next 6 months (or so).”

A follow-up post included a snapshot of the nutrition facts and ingredient list, which showed that Rice Krispies Gluten-Free would be made with brown rice and contain 130 calories, 1g of fiber, 1g of sugar and 3g of protein per serving.

The news circulated quickly through the celiac and gluten-free community, some wondering whether the news was too good to be true. However, an email shared by Gluten-Free Optimist appears to confirm the reports.

We are excited to tell you that we will have a Rice Krispies Gluten Free cereal launching late May 2011. Although we do not have a lot of information to share with you at this time, we encourage you to look for this product on your stores shelves in a few months.

The email was sent by Kellogg’s Consumer Specialist Natalie Felix.
