Gluten-Free Bakery Competes in “Cupcake Wars” Tonight

Update!

Crave Bake Shop in Portland, OR, brings gluten-free cupcakes to final round in Food Network competition.

The results are in! Crave Bake Shop made it to the final round in the “Tree Lighting” episode of “Cupcake Wars.” The gluten-free custom order bakery impressed judges with light and flavorful cupcakes. While they didn’t win the prize, the Crave team proved gluten-free can hold its own among traditional gluten-containing treats.

Gluten-free takes on traditional treats in tonight’s Season 2 premiere of “Cupcake Wars.” The popular Food Network show, which puts four teams head-to-head in a baking competition each episode, will feature Crave Bake Shop in tonight’s “Tree Lighting” bake-off.

Based outside of Portland, OR, Crave Bake Shop is a gourmet bakery with a dedicated wheat-free and gluten-free kitchen. Cupcake flavors range from Spicy Hot Chocolate to Raspberry Lemonade, and they’re all gluten-free.

Owner and baker Kyra Bussinach understands the need for a safe, allergen-free environment. As her bio on the Food Network website indicates, Kyra is “allergic to many foods herself.” Kyra and assistant Jackie Schonbrun will appear in the episode.

In honor of the show, Crave Bake Shop is hosting a viewing party and celebration, including free gluten-free cupcakes, in the bar at 1401 SW Naito Parkway, Portland, from 8:30-10:30 p.m.

“Cupcake Wars” airs tonight (Dec. 7) at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Fans can also catch the rerun on Dec. 8 at midnight ET/PT or Dec. 11 at 4 p.m. ET/PT.

*Extra Scoop! Sweet Freedom Bakery, a gluten-free, vegan bakery based in Philadelphia, will also compete in “Cupcake Wars” on Dec. 28, 2010. Sweet Freedom Bakery recently showcased its gluten-free treats at Appetite for Awareness, the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness’ annual fundraiser.
