Gluten-free manufacturer sets Guinness World Record in an effort to raise awareness for celiac disease and other gluten-related disorders.
NIPfood and the Dr. Schar Group (parent company of the gluten-free manufacturer Dr. Schar USA, Inc.) teamed up to bake the world’s largest gluten-free pizza for celiac and gluten-related disorder awareness. Named Ottavia, the pizza was baked in Rome, Italy and weighed in at a whopping 25.6 tons, making it the largest pizza ever, not just the largest gluten-free pizza.
It took more than 48 hours of continuous work from five NIPfood chefs to complete the monstrous pizza, which was 131 feet in diameter (more than the length of a football field!). Completing the pizza was no small feat and required:
Ulrich Ladurner, Founder and President of Dr. Schar Group, said he was proud that the company was able to take part in the massive event, which took place on the opening day of the Arts & Crafts Expo in Fiera di Roma. Ladurna said, “Ottavia has given us the opportunity to also demonstrate that gluten-free diets no longer mean suffering at the dinner table for celiacs and those who are gluten-sensitive. With innovation and research, gluten-free foods are now even more tasty, delicious and nutritious than ever.”
Dr. Schar and NIPfood are officially listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for their gluten-free pizza making endeavor. After the pizza was completed, the team shared the pizza with the Expo attendees.
The story of the record-setting pizza has been splashed across headlines, putting celiac disease and other gluten-related disorders in the spotlight! Great job to everyone involved for working towards raising awareness!
