Celiac Blogger Appeals to Oprah

Submit your request to put celiac disease in the spotlight.

As Oprah begins her final season, she is turning to fans for interview ideas. “We always love hearing from our viewers, so now it’s your turn to tell us who YOU want Oprah to interview before the show ends,” the submission form states.

According to Gluten-Free Optimist Sandra Robins, it’s the perfect opportunity to launch celiac awareness on the mainstage. Robins posted her Oprah submission on her blog, suggesting celiac expert Dr. Alessio Fasano and NFCA Founder Alice Bast as guests in a show devoted to celiac disease.

Oprah, you have the unique power and ability to help the millions of Americans living undiagnosed with celiac disease and prevent them from experiencing the dangerous complications of untreated celiac disease. Please take a moment to read these startling stats about celiac disease. A show about celiac disease could save lives,”she wrote.

Robins urged other celiac advocates to follow suit and submit their own requests.

In NFCA’s August 2010 newsletter, Bast noted the value Oprah could bring to celiac awareness. According to renowned Finnish researcher Dr. Markku Maki, media exposure like the “Oprah Winfrey Show” could help raise U.S. diagnosis rates, Bast wrote.
