We at the NFCA are proud to share that Dr. Alessio Fasano, a member of the NFCA Scientific/Medical Advisory Board, has been honored with the prestigious Research Lecturer of the Year award from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

UMB recently named four outstanding members of the faculty and staff as a part of its 14th annual Founders Week Celebration, Oct 19-22. Fasano is a professor in the School of Medicine there and directs both the School’s Center for Celiac Research and it’s Mucosal Biology Research Center. His research and inquiries have led to a greater understanding of celiac disease, including the discovery of a protein, zonulin that regulates the permeability of the intestine.

To find out more information, check out the University of Maryland, Baltimore website.
