Gluten-Free Warrior Raises Celiac Awareness in Alumni Magazine

In a featured story from Penn State University, Genevieve Sherrow shares her experience with non-celiac gluten sensitivity and how it led her to opening her gluten-free consulting company.

The alumni magazine for the Health and Human Development department at Penn State University recently highlighted the success of gluten-free entrepreneur Genevieve Sherrow.  Sherrow is the owner of Gluten-Free Warrior, a consulting company specializing in nutritional counseling, and private chef and catering services.

For years, Genevieve Sherrow suffered from digestive health issues, but it wasn’t until 2007 that she discovered she has non-celiac gluten sensitivity.  Her struggles with gluten inspired her to start Gluten-Free Warrior.  Her business raises awareness for celiac disease and gluten-related disorders, and her feature in the magazine helped spread more information about the conditions.

“I had never before made associations between the food I ate and the digestive discomfort I experienced,” she said in the article.  “Removing gluten ended up solving some of my problems.”

She also reported on celiac statistics, including the fact that 3 million Americans are living with the autoimmune disease.  Her mission?  Educate individuals on the gluten-free diet and highlight the healing properties of natural foods.
