NFCA President Gives Keynote Speech at Central Pennsylvania Gluten-Free Expo

Alice Bast offers tips for living a healthy gluten-free lifestyle, while emphasizing a gluten-free diet is not meant for weight loss.

On Sunday, November 10, 2013 National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) President Alice Bast gave the keynote speech at the Central Pennsylvania Gluten-Free Expo. Bast presented her speech twice to accommodate the over 1,000 attendees who turned out for the event, which included over 30 vendors proving gluten-free samples.

After sharing her own personal struggle with celiac disease, Bast dispelled myths that the gluten-free diet will help with weight loss, noting that many gluten-free foods are higher in calories and fat and often low in fiber. In addition, Bast offered tips for people living with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity (‘gluten sensitivity’) to help them maintain a healthy, lifelong gluten-free diet.

Many thanks to the organizers of the Central Pennsylvania Gluten-Free Expo for having Alice and NFCA as part of the big event and congratulations on such a large turnout!
