Letter from Alice: Running Toward a Common Goal
Celiac disease can affect anybody, no matter their age, race, ethnicity or gender. Despite this diversity, we often hear the same sentiment over and over from our community: the gluten-free diet is a burden that restricts your life choices; even on the gluten-free diet, you still experience symptoms; the gluten-free diet is no longer enough—you want options. So many of us want treatments in addition to or in place of the gluten-free diet.
We hear you, and we feel the same! It’s why we work every day to accelerate research toward treatments and a cure. If you also feel passionately about this, we encourage you to donate or fundraise with us at our fall Step Beyond Celiac 5K!
On October 1st, community members across the United States (and international participants, too!) will lace up their sneakers to participate in the Philadelphia and Virtual Step Beyond Celiac races, raising important funds for our celiac disease research efforts. We are truly running together for a cure!
In honor of the October date, we’re offering a Halloween-themed race t-shirt, featuring the tagline “gluten is spooky.” The idea of getting glutened can strike fear in the heart of anybody with celiac disease. This fall, let’s push back against the anxiety and isolation that can flare when you have to choose between a carefree day of fun or eating safely—at our Step Beyond Celiac 5K, you can do both!
Bring your friends down to Blue Bell PA on October 1st and enjoy beautiful weather, gluten-free goodies, activities for kids, and community. Or participate virtually and complete the 3.1 miles with friends and family wherever you are.
With your fundraising help, we may soon live in a world where special, gluten-free events aren’t necessary, where you don’t have to worry about choosing between days of fun and safe foods— a world Beyond Celiac.
Together for a cure,
—Alice Bast
