A video segment featuring the well-known health expert connects the gluten-free diet to celiac disease.
While the mainstream media often focuses on the gluten-free diet, the connection to celiac disease is not always made. Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a regular health expert on CNN, covered the gluten-free diet and its connection to the autoimmune disease in a segment of Everyday Health.
Dr. Gupta interviewed expert gastroenterologist Dr. Joseph A. Murray of the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Murray discusses a recent study which found 1.6 million Americans are eating gluten-free or cutting down of their gluten intake without a medical reason to do so. Meanwhile, 83% of people living with celiac disease remain undiagnosed.

The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness urges those who think they may have celiac disease take the Celiac Disease Symptoms Checklist and talk to their doctor about testing before going on a gluten-free diet.
