Delayed Loss of Baby Teeth

Question:

Is there any relation to delayed loss of baby teeth and celiac disease? My 8-year old daughter was diagnosed 4 months ago and at the time of her diagnosis she had only lost two baby teeth. Since her diagnosis she has lost one more and several more have started loosening. It’s a little socially-awkward for her because most of her friends have already lost their baby teeth and she is just getting started.

From,

Kara

Answer:

Hello Kara. Actually, there is a relation of celiac disease and dental abnormalities. There have been several studies where they found dental enamel defects in people with celiac disease. They also have noted that several patients have a delay in transitioning from their baby teeth to their permanent teeth.
