Video: Student’s Science Fair Project Diagnoses Four People with Celiac Disease

3rd grader Grace Rennard tells Channel 2 News about the experiment that diagnosed four people with celiac disease, including her best friend and neighbor.

Grace Rennard is making Alaskan headlines for her third grade science fair project. Grace’s hypothesis centered around the celiac disease prevalence rate of 1 in 131. With the help of My Health Clinic, she screened 131 people to determine if one person would test positive. To her surprise, four people came back positive for the autoimmune disease and two had borderline test results. Even more surprising to Grace was the diagnosis of her best friend and neighbor, 10 year old Madellyn Thronquist.
