First Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity Center for Children Opens on Long Island

7/22/2013

On July 10, 2013, Long Island, New York became home to the new Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity Center at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.  This new center brings the specialists of Stony Brook Children’s under one roof to help children and families get through the diagnosis, treatment and management of celiac disease and gluten sensitivity.

According to the center’s website, their approach to treatment focuses not only on the physical side of managing a gluten-related disorder, but the social and emotional aspects as well.  In addition to board-certified gastroenterologists, the center has a registered dietitian on staff, which is crucial in helping kids and parents learn which foods are safe and which ones are off-limits.

To celebrate the center's grand opening, celiac disease advocates set up tables in the main lobby of Stony Brook Children's to hand out gluten-free samples and information on the gluten-free diet to raise more awareness.

The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) congratulates Stony Brook Children's on the opening of the new Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity Center!  You can learn more about the new center by visiting StoneyBrookChildrens.org.
